GRAYSON’S NEXT-GENERATION RADIATORS OFFER FEWER LEAKAGES AND SUPERIOR THERMAL PERFORMANCE | Autumn 2009
Following two years of intensive research and development, Grayson Thermal Systems has launched a range of all-aluminium radiators and charge air coolers designed to offer enhanced reliability and greater durability.
And, with take-up of the products exceeding expectation, the company has introduced extra shifts at its dedicated aluminium production facility, which is now manufacturing around the clock, five days each week.
Grayson, which specialises in the manufacture of cooling, heating and air conditioning products for specialist vehicle manufacturers, bus and coach manufacturers and the aftermarket, has introduced the fully-welded aluminium range after two years of field trials and extensive factory-based testing that showed the range exceeds the thermal performance of traditionally-manufactured products.
For the past 12 months, Grayson has been manufacturing the products for a UK-based bus manufacturer and a specialist vehicle manufacturer, during which time they have proved to offer unrivalled reliability.
Grayson managing director Stuart Hateley said: “We have been working in partnership with our customers and have invested nearly a quarter of a million pounds in developing this next generation product, which offers superior thermal performance and enhanced reliability.
“It provides vehicle manufacturers with a cost-effective, proven means of upgrading their vehicle systems, and also helps both them and their customers to fulfil their environmental obligations. Fully-welded, with no plastic, steel, copper or brass components, these products are 100 per cent recyclable at the end of their life.”
With another OEM now opting to use Grayson’s aluminium cooling systems in its vehicles, and plans in hand to market the systems to others, the company is planning the installation of a second aluminium brazing line, taking its total investment in the new range to nearly £1m. Grayson also retains its copper and brass manufacturing facility, and is seeing continuous growth in demand for these products as it exploits new markets.
Grayson was set up in Birmingham in 1978 by Graham Hateley, as an engineering business supplying parts to the automotive aftermarket. Today the company serves the specialist off-highway vehicle and the bus and coach industries and has three divisions, two manufacturing sites in Birmingham and distribution centres in Birmingham, Bathgate, Basingstoke, Newcastle and Oldham.
It has 159 employees and a turnover of £16.4m.
